WHAT DRIFTS MORE THAN A HOBO?

A "SILTRONIX"

Yep, for anyone (and many of you have) owned one of these, you know very well just how much it can drift! It has just two bands on it - 10 meters (tx/rx), and 11 meter (rx only), and I wonder if anyone has ever bought one that only received on 11 meters? These were out and about in the early 70's and retailed for about $530.

Rated at 260 watts P.E.P. (input), 180 watts for CW, and 60 watts for AM, this transceiver was marketed as "A serious rig for the 10 meter Amateur, with a tunable monitor for the CB band". And while the VFO was solid-state, it didn't prevent it from drifting UP and DOWN enough to really test the patience of a SSB operator.

Many owners preferred to leave their rig "ON" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to improve stability by reducing drift. I had a friend that I talked with back in the old days and he practiced this procedure (even in the searing heat of summer), and very rarely did he have to re-adjust his frequency. While I've never run across an "A" model, I have seen the "B", "C", and "D" models of the 1011 (was there an "E"? Lemme know!!).
